통상적인 행성 확대 촬영용으로 사용되는 웹캠과 비교할 때 Lumenera LU075 카메라는 더 높은 감도와 tonal resolution(12 bit), 더 많은 시간당 캡쳐수(60 fps @640x480), 그리고 더 빠른 전송속도(USB 2.0)를 갖고 있습니다. 모노크롬 카메라이므로 컬러의 표현을 위해서는 필터를 이용한 RGB, 혹은 LRGB 촬영 후 컴퓨터 상에서 합성을 해야 하는 번거로움이 있습니다만, 대신 이렇게 하므로서 컬러 채널 당 각기 640x480의 full resolution을 얻을 수 있다는 큰 장점이 있습니다.
결국 이러한 행성 촬영 기법을 도입하기 위해서는 고감도 모노크롬 CCD 카메라 뿐만 아니라 LRGB 필터셋, 전동으로 구동되는 필터교환장치(소위 필터휠) 및 이들을 제어할 수 있는 소프트웨어가 필요하게 됩니다. LRGB 필터셋은 Astronomik 1.25 Inch LRGB Dichroic Filter Set(Type II with Built-in IR Block), 그리고 필터휠은 Homeyer씨의 주문생산품인 Motorized Filter Wheel로 결정하고 현재 개발자/판매자와 교섭 중입니다.
Lumenera LU075 카메라와 Homeyer MFW의 소프트웨어적 제어는 얼마전 공개되어 현재 활발히 개발되어지고 있는 LucamRecorder를 통해 가능하리라 여겨집니다. 이들 새로운 촬영 장비에 대한 보다 자세한 이야기는 추후 부연해 올리겠습니다.

Technical Spec for Homeyer Motorized Filter Wheel
This is a 6 position, stepper motor driven filter wheel. It is 5 inches in diameter, about 3/4 inch thick in the body, not counting the stepper motor cover. The reason for the 6 positions is that IF one is using UBVRI filter there is still a clear position thru which to focus. If the clear position is equipped with a clear glass filter the same thickness as the photometric filters, then there will be no focus shift between filters. All the electronics are in the hand control box, none in the filter wheel housing itself. The hand box allows manual push button advancement of the filters, and has an LED that changes color to indicate which filter is in the optical path. Cables from the hand box allow for the connection to power, anything from 12 to 18 VDC, and to computer control of the filter positions. The computer cable is terminated in a DB-9 connector for serial port use. If the MFW is used with a SBIG camera then software from SBIG and Software Bisque will control it. MaxIm/CCD does an outstanding job of controlling the MFW and also allows it to be controlled from the parallel port. I also have a small stand alone Windows program to control the MFW is this is more desirable.
